Research

We investigate social phenomena, conduct case studies and evaluations, and focus on topics such as social inequality, work, and the environment. Our methods include quantitative and qualitative approaches as well as mixed methods, supported by modern technologies. We also offer comprehensive project support from data collection to archiving.

We investigate a wide range of social phenomena, but we also conduct case studies and evaluations. Through our participation in the International Social Survey Program and the Social Survey Austria, we focus on key issues such as social inequality, work, environment, family, and health. Our particular strength lies in comparing local phenomena at an international level. In the field of data collection, we conduct research on survey methods and various survey formats, both offline and online and also implement these methods in practice. In addition, we archive data to maximize its quality throughout the entire process, from data collection to archiving and making it accessible and usable for researchers. In the context of evaluations, we offer comprehensive support, ranging from planning to scientifically precise analysis.

We use a variety of innovative and proven research methods to gain well-founded insights into social phenomena. Quantitative methods, including surveys, statistical analysis and big data analysis, are used to systematically analyze large amounts of data. Qualitative approaches, such as interviews, focus groups, and observations, are used to gain a deep understanding of individual experiences. In addition, we use mixed-methods approaches that combine qualitative and quantitative data. Our work is supported by modern technologies such as digital platforms and data analysis tools, ensuring accurate and efficient data collection and analysis.

We offer comprehensive project support for basic scientific research and applied research projects, including opinion surveys, case studies, and evaluations. Our range of services covers the entire data life cycle from data generation and data analysis to reporting and data archiving. Through our integration into national and European research infrastructures, we guarantee the highest standards and quality. An overview of our current and completed projects can be found under the section "Projects".

As a location of AUSSDA - The Austrian Social Science Data Archive in Graz, the CSR offers comprehensive expertise in social science research data management. The aim is to prepare research data in accordance with the FAIR Data Principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) in a comprehensible manner and to make it accessible and usable for researchers. In doing so, aspects of research ethics must be taken into account as well as data protection and copyright requirements. By providing consulting and training, we help to establish data management skills in education and training at the University of Graz and beyond - for example, by networking with the Graz Methods Competence Center (GMZ) and by participating in relevant university courses and programs. By participating in AUSSDA, the CSR ensures integrated data stewardship for the central survey programs SSÖ and ISSP across the entire data life cycle.
